Is this one worthy of a "+"?

cardinalcardinal Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭✭✭
Surely one of my favorites image , is this one worthy of re-submitting for a "+"?

Or should I keep it in its older holder (the first generation blue-label, with the barcode and PNG logo on the back)?

I think coins like this stand on their own merits.

That is a wonderful coin, and it does not need anybody's sticker. It screams quality.

Any 1794 dollar is an MS68 in my opinion. I dont think anyone cares what they grade. Just having one is the pinnacle of coin collecting.

I agree with Jeremy here. I think truly special coins that are essentially one of a kind are such that the actual grade on the holder is mostly a formality.

Grade is irrelevant on that coin. Amazing.

I think the service was designed for just such coins.
The coin doesn't need it but the service sure could and probably does need it.

Actually, it's a real screamer in hand! Both sides have amazing luster and even the edge is outstanding.

I would bring that out on a coin forum every so often and make other collectors drool. Thats what I would do.

No plus needed, the coin speaks for itself. Excuse me while I wipe the drool from my keyboard.

The secure aspect of the new service would be the only reason to consider resubmission. However with such a unique piece, it's not like you wouldn't be able to prove its yours if ever stolen.

The coin is fabulous and needs no plus or sticker to prove what is evident.

A superb and stunning gem that needs no embellishments to prove its merits.

    May we see the reverse?

Since it's a $100K +++ coin, Secure Plus grading is mandatory should it be resubmitted. That said, who cares? It is what it is, and will never cease to be such as long as it is cared for.

Would be kind of pointless to send in that coin it has to be the best known example maybe the only known example.

Wow, sure took awhile for someone to figure it out. Please note, I started the thread on April 1st!!image

I actually had created that image a few years ago, but other than the serial number, I actually got the label correct -- even down to extrapolating the PCGS coin number that would apply to a red-brown example.

Always capitalize and use trademarks in their correct form:

Incorrect: The image was Adobe® Photoshopped.
Correct: The image was enhanced with Adobe® Photoshop® CS4 software.

Leave it just as it is. Coins like that don't need to be moved from holder to holder, especially since damage can occur during the crack-out and reholdering process.

I didn't realize this was an april 1st thread till realone mentioned it's a trick question.

I just added the Davis-Graves 1954 Stack's auction catalog to my Library today.

This J-19 is to be unique and a 1 or a Kind.

It's also supposed to be in the Smithsonian... so I was questioning how does cardinal own it image

    Good one cardinal! image

Edited to add: It sold for $1400 in the Graves sale which was about $300 less then a new car, or $8800 less then a new house in 1954.
